[This is one of those posts where there’s a LOT more content than I can fit in the description, so it’s especially recommended this time around that you check out the episode web page. And please don’t forget to turn on the CC button for the YouTube videos I’m sharing below! Also, there’s been a new update regarding the lyrics of the chorus, courtesy of a gentleman involved. Check near bottom of web page for that!]
The brilliant, powerful music of Attack on Titan is easily one of the most beloved aspects of the television show, and really the series as a whole at this point. For various folks, the new opening theme used for Attack on Titan’s final season was decidedly underwhelming, and the visual sequence that accompanied it left much to be desired. And no two ways about it—the music we’re used to getting from Linked Horizon and REVO is a hard act to follow. The same fact applies to those tasked with taking over from Hiroyuki Sawano. And of course both the openings and the main series had fantastic visuals playing out as we listened to that music.
But I really want to encourage people to take another look at this new opening we’ve been given to enjoy. Patience will be required, but as certain things play out in the storyline, I think many lightbulbs will go off and people will understand the more restrained opening we’ve gotten with this new season. This wasn’t a lack of effort; this was something perfectly suited to the tone and events of this final season.…
This is one of those episodes where the comment section will be open on YouTube, so feel free to sound off there! HOWEVER…if you’re a manga reader, PLEASE make sure to properly mark off and hide from view any Season 4 spoilers you wish to share (that is, use a spoiler warning and make sure the spoiler material itself is below the “read more” tag). I do plan on moderating comments to try and help people avoid getting accidentally spoiled regarding Season 4.
And if you’re a troll who wants to deliberately do that for “fun”? …I’ll respond accordingly.
All right, folks. Shinzou wo sasageyo!!
Content Notice: This episode is in the PG range, as I will be referencing some topics that are not child-friendly, but nothing graphic. The show itself is definitely an R/TV-MA series, however, and I would recommend a minimum age of 15 or so. That is chiefly due to violence, mainly of the action type. That aspect gets very intense. There’s some strong language here and there, but not to where it’s really noteworthy, and as far as I can recall, there’s been no graphic nudity or sexual content thus far, though there are certain other content caveats mentioned in my review.
Videos for the Opening & Ending
These are some of my favorite videos that I’ve found for the ending and opening—especially the opening. There are lyric videos, AMVs, music covers, and vocal covers. Many of them include lyrics either on-screen, in closed captioning, or both, so please remember to turn on the “CC” button. In fact, the lyrics are my primary reason for sharing these here, though certainly the music and covers themselves ROCK, as do the fan-made music videos.

Main Lyrics |
Shinsei Kamattechan – Boku no Sensou (My War) Lyrics Let’s start a new life from the darkness Until the light reveals the end Sinister faces, growing curses [This is my last war] Angels playing, disguised with devils’ faces Children cling to their coins, squeezing out their wisdom Angels planning, disguised with devils’ faces Children cling on to their very last coins Destruction And regeneration YOU are the real enemy WAR! [My] WAR! [MY] WAR! Monster! Monster! Monster! MONSTER! |
The lyrics for the chorus at the beginning and throughout the song have variously been suggested as Latin, Spanish, and German. German and Latin seem most likely in the context of the series, which often incorporates German into the songs, but the Spanish version does sound closer to matching the audio for me.
Credits to Ammar Mashkoor, SomeRandomDude, and BBC (YouTube user, not news channel) for German versions, Alexander Zavaleta and alien0logy for Spanish version:
German |
Das leben ist das Das leben ist das Das leben ist das Dast ist, dast ist, dast ist leben |
German, stylized to match chorus |
Da-da-da-da-das le-eben i-i-ist das Das le-eben i-i-ist das Das le-eben i-i-ist das Das ist, das ist, das ist leben! |
Spanish, stylized to include syllable repetition for chorus, as with the German |
La-la-la-la-la vida sola vi-virirás La vida sola vi-vivirás La vida sola vi-vivirás Justice! Justice! La vivida |
Update: We’ve now been informed by the singer that the chorus itself was in essentially made-up language. Glad I already included those warnings about the uncertainty regarding this topic, ha! Also, I’m still glad we have the guesses from other folks, because it’s much easier for me to have distinct syllables that I can follow to sing along. The pseudo-Spanish version is the one that flows well for me.
