Tale Spin: C4 Preview

Preview for Chapter 4 of Tale Spin.

The work went more swiftly now with an extra set of hands. Dick thankfully had better sense than to ask or allow Damian to lay a finger on Jason, but tasks like handing off needed implements and disposing of detritus smoothed the flow of work and expedited things considerably.

And Damian made a pretty good physician’s assistant, all things considered.

It helped that he was no longer spending half the time inspiring further bloodshed.

Jason really had been trying to cut down on the killing and all. Chuckling to himself at this thought made it just a little easier to ignore the anxiety that began churning in his gut as the final shards of metal and splinters of glass were removed from his body.

He was beginning to assemble the pieces of the strange mood Dick had been lingering in most of the night, and he wasn’t sure he liked the picture that had formed.

Something had happened, something so jarring that it had left Grayson shaky and tense and grim, which wasn’t a mood that ever looked natural on him, and had even led him to losing his last bit of patience with the Demon Brat.

And it had to do with Jason.

He’d snapped at Damian…for Jason?

“Hey. Dickie.”

Dick stilled his hands for a moment in acknowledgement, but waited in silence.

“Am I dying?”

His words and hands alike stuttered at this, the cautery pen nearly slipping from his grasp as he all but choked. Yeah, that would’ve sucked. “What? Fuck, Jay. Don’t—no. No? Wh—are you‽”

“Okay, okay. Don’t get your damned boxers in a twist. You’ve been acting weird all day, ‘s all.”

“I—” His lips pressed together, and he said nothing more, for a moment, returning to his prep work on the final wound. But he could definitely feel the withering glare Jason sent at his continued silence, and his head dipped a little after a few moments. “I saw something. Last night.”
