95. Part 4 of Reaction to “Attack on Titan” S4E12: “Guides”

Whoo, final part! I’m properly caught up now with the coverage, my dear listeners. Which means I need to promptly begin the work for Episode 13, pfft. But for now:

  • The things I didn’t fancy about MAPPA’s rendering of the jacket/jailbreak scene (plus I’ll share some counterarguments regarding those issues)
  • A couple of resources for those seeking to cosplay as Eren or “Ellen” Jaeger—or just borrow his slick style [Which reminds me—I finally get that Ellen thing—it’s a Google translate issue that sometimes happens with Eren’s name. That and “Honor Yeager.”]
  • And a small but neat detail not mentioned in the anime version of the sequence

Right hand in his pocket, Eren Jaeger stands ready to bite his left hand and transform. Levi and Mikasa Ackermann stand poised in front of him—on his right and left, respectively—as though they are his royal guard. Each is holding one blade, together forming a protective "X" in front of Eren to protect him from approachers. The two Ackermanns are in their Season 4 Survey Corps uniforms. Eren is clad in black slacks or jeans and an almost knee-length black cardigan. With no shirt underneath, the open cardigan largely exposes to view his lithe but exceptionally muscular torso.

This cracked me up when I first came across it via Reddit, and when I saw it again on YouTube, I decided to go ahead and share it here. Plus it sums up how fans feel about the manga panel, I’d say. Hopefully we can all channel a little of this vibe for cosplay, haha.

Also, I’m quite glad helpful folks were there to help provide clarity. I’d pretty much worked it out already, but it was good to have confirmation and further details. Slang—especially current slang—is not one of my strong points, ha.

The Founding Drip.

To be honest, I don’t actually know what the heck drip is. Is it like swag or something?

Sangios

Yea it’s basically how cool the clothes look, so things like Supreme Jackets are usually in these memes

superxcrazy917

Drip is the a way to say you have cool clothes.

‚Supreme‘ is considered to be the biggest Hypebeast brand (hypebeast = people that drop loads of money to wear certain (mostly exclusive/limited) streetwear styles/brands) that exists. Therefore wearing Supreme = hella dripping. (It‘s a meme)

The jacket with „by all means necessary“ written all over it is one of the most iconic pieces of clothing from Supreme – therefore it‘s memed as the most ultimate piece of drip that exists. Now it‘s mostly just a meme but if you google the iconic „BAMN Supreme jacket“ you can see it still goes for a few thousand dollars.

Ok sorry but I’m out of the loop. What’s going on with that jacket and why is it everywhere.

Ichinisanrei

just Google drip goku, it started off as an edit where goku was wearing streetwear and then it spread to other anime fandoms.

salacario08

And even the Beatles fandom.

Maybe I’m just getting old, but can someone explain to me what a drip is?

Cyano_Khaar

Swag, glamour, fashion, a great outfit and accessories.

This is one of those episodes where the comment section will be open on YouTube, so feel free to sound off there! HOWEVER…if you’re a manga reader, PLEASE make sure to properly mark off and hide from view any Season 4 spoilers you wish to share (that is, use a spoiler warning and make sure the spoiler material itself is below the “read more” tag). I do plan on moderating comments to try and help people avoid getting accidentally spoiled regarding Season 4.

And if you’re a troll who wants to deliberately do that for “fun”? …I’ll respond accordingly.

All right, folks. Shinzou wo sasageyo!!

Content Notice: Regarding content, most of my coverage of Attack on Titan will be in the PG range, unless otherwise noted. PG-13 will be when we get into things like particularly graphic descriptions of violence and suicide.

The show itself is definitely an R/TV-MA series, however, and I would recommend a minimum age of 15 or so. That is chiefly due to violence, mainly of the action type. That aspect gets very intense. There’s some strong language here and there, but not to where it’s really noteworthy, and as far as I can recall, there’s been no graphic nudity or sexual content thus far, though there are certain other content caveats mentioned in my review.
